Richard McGoldrick

Born May 13, 1937   -   Passed August 21, 2025

Richard J. McGoldrick, a lifelong Sherman farmer who served his town as a selectman, municipal board member, and longtime school bus driver, died on August 21, 2025, at his home in Sherman. He was 88.

Born on May 18, 1937, at New Milford Hospital to William and Margaret McGoldrick, Mr. McGoldrick attended elementary school in Sherman and graduated from New Milford High School.

In 1970, he assumed operation of the McGoldrick family farm, a local agricultural fixture established more than 150 years ago. Originally a tobacco farm, the property evolved over the generations to support dairy and beef cattle, pigs, chickens, and crops. The farm's haying operations remain active today.

Deeply involved in municipal governance, Mr. McGoldrick served as a Sherman selectman from July 1999 to July 2001. His civic contributions also included tenures on the town's Board of Tax Review and Board of Assessors. For many years, he was a familiar presence to area children as a school bus driver, and he served as sexton of the Coburn Cemetery on Leach Hollow Road. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Mr. McGoldrick was twice widowed, having been predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Williams, and his second wife, Bernadette Wolfe Coyte. He was also predeceased by his parents and two brothers, William and David. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Nancy; several stepchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Parish, located at 21 Brush Hill Road in New Fairfield, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
