Beth A. Anderson, 72

Beth A. Anderson, a longtime resident of Sherman who spent a 35-year career serving the Wassaic Developmental Center just across the state line in New York, died on May 28, 2026, at Danbury Hospital. She was 72.

Born in Sharon, Connecticut, on March 2, 1954, to Erroll Raymond and Jessie Dunleavy Hufcut, she grew up in Dover Plains, New York, and graduated from Dover High School in 1972. On January 4, 1975, she married William Alan Anderson at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains.

Mrs. Anderson spent the entirety of her professional life working as a secretary at the Wassaic Developmental Center. Following her retirement in 2009, she continued to enjoy the quiet, scenic surroundings of her longtime home in Sherman.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, William; two sisters, Jill Cherof of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and Lisa Fritts of Atlanta; four nephews, Zachary and Matthew Taylor, Alexander Clark, and Joshua Cherof; and one niece, Carly Lisovitch. She was predeceased by her parents.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, New York, with a funeral service immediately following at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the New Milford Sherman Animal Welfare Society, Inc., 223 State Route 37, New Fairfield, CT 06812.
